The LG V40 has popped up a few times this Summer. First, in June, we heard the device would feature 3 cameras on the back and a Google Assistant button. In July, a rumor claimed the V40 would launch a month after the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Then earlier this month, the POLED display was confirmed along with a notch and some other specs. Today, we have our first look at the device in a leaked press render.
Some of the other features we've heard for the LG V40 include 2 cameras on the front, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, Quad DAC functionality, and a fingerprint scanner on the rear. This leaked render confirms everything we've heard about the device so far. It does indeed have 3 cameras on the back and a Google Assistant button.
The design of the phone is pretty much as expected. It's a combination of the LG V30 and the LG G7 ThinQ. There is indeed a display notch, but the status bar is hiding it in these renders. You can see the battery percentage is in line with the front cameras. On the glass back, we can see the three cameras aligned horizontally, the fingerprint scanner, and what is said to be a "mirror finish." We do not yet know how the third camera will be utilized. Overall, this is a pretty typical LG design, though it does look nice.
One of the reports claimed the LG V40 would launch a month after the Galaxy Note 9. Seeing as how the Note 9 is just a few days away from appearing on store shelves, that report seems about right. For comparison, the LG V30 was announced in August and shipped in September.
