Pebble tasted a lot of success with the original Pebble Classic and its Kickstarter campaign, garnering over $10 million in funds. So when they decided to bring another product to the masses, they did what worked well for them: they started another kickstarter.
Enter the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2, Pebble Core and their kickstarter.
Pebble 2
Starting with the Pebble 2, it is an upgrade over the Pebble Classic, although the kickstarter is vague on what has been upgraded on the inside. On the outside, the Pebble 2 features a sleeker design which should appeal to the people who passed up on the original for being bulky for a smartwatch. You still get a black and white display, which helps with outdoor visibility. But, you still do not get a touch screen, although at this stage, it is safe to say that they weren’t aiming to bring one to the Classic lineup anyway. For the rest of its features, the device features a microphone for voice actions, a heart rate monitor and is water resistant up to 30m.
The Pebble 2 will retail for $129 outside its Kickstarter.
Pebble Time 2
The Pebble Time 2 sheds the toy look from the classic series and goes for stainless steel. The e-color display is also a nice addition, but still no touchscreen so your interactions have to be limited via buttons and voice. The Pebble Time 2 otherwise shares all of its features with the Pebble 2, so these are the only benefits available over the cheaper option.
The Pebble Time 2 will retail for $199 after its Kickstarter.
Pebble Core
The Pebble Core is a unique product for Pebble, as it is not a smartwatch but a “smart” fitness wearable. The Pebble Core works independant of smartphones (via 3G and WiFi), so you can wear it without lugging your phone around. It packs in a few handy features, such as the ability to stream music via Spotify, track and sync your fitness data with several fitness apps on your smartphone, track location via GPS and take voice notes. You can also use it to activate Pebble apps, or send out an emergency SOS message with your location data.
The Pebble Core will cost $99 after its kickstarter.
Pebble is also adding a bit of a developer twist to the Pebble Core. At the core of Core is essentially an unlocked Android 5.0 device. Since it comes with a variety of connectivity options (3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS), has a very unique styling and can work with voice as well, you can use the Core as a button for anything that you would want to. At this stage, you do have to apply for “early access to the Core SDK”, but we assume that this will eventually be opened up for all.

As of writing this, the Pebble kickstarter sits at $2.8 Million within a few hours of it going live. This is well above the $1 Million goal of the project, and with 36 days left. Needless to say, Pebble going with Kickstarter again, despite being in a better position to develop and deliver products than they originally were, was a smart business decision.
