Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 9 Certified by 3C, Could Launch in January

This year, Nokia phones made a comeback through a licensing deal with HMD Global. The latter bought the rights Nokia's brand, and it chose Android as the mobile operating system for its new devices. Shortly after, HMD Global launched the budget Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and the Nokia 3 in quick succession, and followed them up with the flagship Nokia 8, which was shipped globally in September, and the mid-range Nokia 7, which launched in  China.

Now, we are starting to hear rumors of HMD Global's next-generation smartphones. It's been rumored that the Nokia 9 will be the most expensive device in HMD's portfolio, and it's also been said that the Nokia 6 will get a successor, tentatively known as the Nokia 6 (2018), early next year.

Those rumors got a lot more traction recently when the Nokia 6 (2018) with model number "TA-1054" was spotted at TENAA, China's regulatory authority. The TENAA listing gives a sneak peak at the device, which will have an 18:9 display, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and it will have a single rear camera. When it comes to the design, there are discreet antenna bands on the top and bottom, hinting at a unibody metal build.

The front of the Nokia 6 (2018) is dominated by the display, the size of which is currently unknown. There also appears to be a front-facing camera and the Nokia logo on the top.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that the Nokia 6 (2018) has been certified by 3C, the Chinese device certification agency. The rumored Nokia 9 with model number "TA-1042" has also gotten certification, implying that its release may be near.

Rumors suggest that the Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 9 may launch first in China. They also suggest that India may be one of the top countries HMD Global will be focusing on goign forward, and that the Nokia 9 may also come in two other variants with model numbers "TA-1005" and "TA-1009".

HMD Global is said to be holding an event in China on January 18 to announce the Nokia 9. The Nokia 6 (2018) may be launched on the same event, and both devices might be shown off at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

These reports are best taken with a grain of salt — there haven't been official updates from the company. But it's looking plausible that successors to HMD's first-generation Nokia phones are near.
