Evan Blass Posts Live Image of the HTC U Ocean

The HTC U Ultra is being praised for its beautiful looks, and that's about it. For other aspects of the device, the U Ultra has received criticism as HTC has made choices that are deemed sub-par for a flagship device in 2017 that warrants a lot of your money. There is very little on the HTC U Ultra that makes the device stand out from its competition and makes it a hard sell when better options exist.

But thankfully, the HTC U Ultra is not all that HTC has in the name of "innovation" this year. The HTC U will take over the crown of HTC's flagship for the year from the U Ultra, and it packs in a few technological tricks that gives it an edge over some of its competition. A few of its details have been around for a while, and now we get our first set of live images of the HTC U aka HTC Ocean courtesy of notable leaker Evan Blass.

From the looks of it, the HTC U will be taking its design cues from the HTC U Ultra rather than the HTC 10. The back appears to be the same glossy 'liquid surface' glass with its rounded edges that we see on the U Ultra. The camera module and lenses are different in shape and placement. The front is also similar, although the difference here will be in the existence of the secondary ticker display on top which we can not spot on the live image. The fingerprint sensor is also seen on the front of the device, complete with its offset placement on the bottom bezel.

The HTC U will be best known for its touch sensitive frame which will gives users an additional means to control actions on the device. For the rest of its specs, the device is rumored to come with a 5.5″ QHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 64/128GB of internal storage with microSD expandability, a 12MP Sony IMX362 on the rear and a 16MP Sony IMX351 on the front. The phone will also launch with Android 7.1 Nougat with HTC's Sense 9 UX skin on top.
